A Tribute to Cartoon Network’s Holiday Rush

I take myself back to 2005 when I was a 13-year-old seventh-grader enjoying this commercial in all of its holiday cheer. To this day, as a 28-year-old university student, I can still cherish this fun Cartoon Network holiday commercial with all my being. Enjoy my tribute and let me know your opinions as well.

A Tribute to Invasion of the Santas

Batman: The Brave and The Bold’s Christmas special taught me to give cynicism the boot, to stop doubting, to hold on to faith, and to find the good in not only this episode but also in this entire animated incarnation of The Caped Crusader. Enjoy my tribute and let me know your opinions as well.

A Lookback on Johnny’s Guardian Angel

Before It’s a Wishful Life’s mean-spiritedness, there was Johnny’s Guardian Angel with its surprising amount of genuineness, heart, and indubitable hilarity. Enjoy my lookback on this rather affectionate parody of It’s a Wonderful Life done in the style of Johnny Bravo.

Xtreme Sector V Universe Part 1

Greetings, all ye fans Powerpuff Girls and Codename: Kids Next Door, it is I your old pal Antoni here with another written entry. As someone who has been growing up with Cartoon Network ever since I was four or five years old, it should come off as no surprise that The Powerpuff Girls and Codename: Kids Next Door are my personal favorite Cartoon Network superhero comedy action shows starring unconventional casts of characters. In The Powerpuff Girls’ case, it has three five-year-old superpowered young ladies who can kick lots of butts while still looking cute and lovely. In Codename: Kids Next Door, it has five tech-savvy pre-teens who use their skills in combat, artillery, and teamwork to combat adult tyranny while having a lot of fun doing so. From seven years old up until now, these were and will always be my staple Cartoon Network shows next to Teen Titans 2003, Dexter’s Laboratory, and Samurai Jack to look forward to not only for the sake of kicking back, relaxing, and enjoying each action-packed and fun moment that goes on with these shows but I can also marvel at how tight the writing was, how the voice actors embody each of their most iconic roles, and how these shows manage to balance action, comedy, and drama so effectively all thanks to the brilliant minds found respectively in Craig McCracken and Tom Warburton. Now, you are also wondering, what do these two shows have in common for me? If you have been reading my posts based on my favorite six-person teams in animation, especially when I gave a lot of special mention to the six-person superhero teams, you will automatically realize that I absolutely adore the teamed-up Rowdyruff Boys and Powerpuff Girls and Sector V plus Katie the Island Girl. Sure, these are mostly headcanon-based but I always figured that when it comes to superhero teams, six is the lucky number that shows stability, great interpersonal dynamics, and mad teamwork skills that could give even the Justice League, the Avengers, and the X-Men a run for their money. Besides, having a ragtag bunch of kids below the age of 12 saving the world from evil shows that children can be very resilient and can put their mind into anything they want to accomplish. Moreover, thanks to such awesome artists such as Bleedman, PurfectPrincessGirl, and PrincessCallyie, just to name a few, I have pretty much gotten myself into the hype that is multiple-universe building in which different characters from different fandoms co-exist in one universe. This has also gotten me to beg this particular question. What if all of the main members of Team Xtreme and Sector V co-existed in one universe? The concept might be ludicrous to some people given how each show is formatted and written. However, with a lot of imagination, creativity, and curiosity, it could be fun and awesome to have different characters finding out what makes them similar and different and just exist in a sort of weird yet wonderful harmony. As you can tell from the title above, I am mainly taking a look at the main six members of Team Xtreme, Sector V, and their main allies. What will follow is a mini-profile for each team in terms of how they were in the show’s run at the time until this very day and even, my most favorite, my most beloved OTPs from each team. Additionally, I have also updated some of the birthdays I have for each team member as well as their ages, and do not fret, for the next written entry will be saved for my other favorite thing to write about, which is the list of fan-children that I and some of my good friends have come up with. With that said, let us get cracking, ladies and gentlemen. Team Xtreme (Brick, Butch, Boomer, Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles) Saving Townsville and the world since 1998, we have Team Xtreme which is a result of The Rowdyruff Boys and The Powerpuff Girls joining forces after the boys not only befriended the girls and realizing that they can work magnificently together as a superhero team but also the fact that Brick, Butch, and Boomer lovingly accepted Miss Sara Bellum as their own mother and eventually having Mr. Green join the family fray as their most beloved father. Ever since then, Brick, Butch, and Boomer have grown up to be the upstanding, charismatic, strong, handsome gentlemen that they are today and Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles have grown up to be the dynamic, brilliant, gorgeous, and athletic ladies that they are. They are not going to retire the superhero business anytime soon, seeing that it is their job and their livelihood, and their children are also doing fine of a job ensuring that they use their powers for good, therefore keeping Townsville and the world safe from all forms of harm. Moreover, the children are having the torches being passed on to them, thus making sure that their parents’ exciting legacy will live on in Townsville’s hearts. This superhero team has an exceptional ensemble with Brick’s proud and confident leadership, Butch’s brute strength and fierceness, Boomer’s complete athleticism combining super strength, unwavering endurance, lightning speed, and a great sense of humor, Blossom’s overall savviness, Buttercup’s unwavering endurance, and Bubbles’ peerless physical flexibility and pacifist nature gelling this team together until the end of time. Brick “The Bludgeoner” Green Age: 28 Birthday: March 12, 1991 Position in Team Xtreme: The Determined Leader Special Powers: Pyrokinesis and Fire Manipulation Six Words to Best Describe Brick: Determined, Large-and-in-Charge, Confident, Street Smart, Protective, Intrepid Status: Married to Buttercup since 2011. Butch “The Baron of Berserk” Green Age: 28 Birthday: March 12, 1991 Position in Team Xtreme: The Brutish Muscle and The Second-in-Command Special Powers: Tornado Punch and Creating a Force Field Six Words to Best Describe Butch: Brutish, Impulsive, Rough, Wild, Super Strong, Fierce Status: Married to Bubbles and Blossom since 2011. Hey, everybody! Antoni, here, with another fan fiction recommendation. Today, I’m taking a look at a Powerpuff Girls fanfic, Sugar Song to A Bitter, Yet Sweet Step! written by Aqua Bailarina 15, published back on November 27, 2015, and updated on March 26, 2016. It’s rated T. It’s in English. It has two chapters, one with the main story or more appropriately one-shot and the other with another author’s note, and the main character pairings are Brick/Blossom and Butch/Buttercup. Other characters involved in the story, though not as prominent, are Boomer, Mitch Mitchelson, Bubbles, and Robin Snyder. This entire story takes place in a middle school setting, so the characters are approximately 13 to 14 years old, as they are in the eighth grade. Let’s get this started shall we? Ah, the Powerpuff Girls. For those of you who watched my look back on ‘Twas the Fight Before Christmas, you will know that ever since I was a lad of seven years old, I was so excited to catch this show on Cartoon Network, considering the fact that it had two pilot shorts on The What a Cartoon Show, which a caught a year ago before the main show premiered in the Philippines, sometime during summer. I am still so happy to call myself a PPG fan to this day, as it is perched alongside my all-time favorite Cartoon Network shows, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Samurai Jack, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Dexter’s Laboratory, Codename: Kids Next Door, Chowder, The Amazing World of Gumball, and Regular Show. I am really looking forward to reviewing the original Powerpuff Girls because Craig McCracken and his crew made something unique, fun, endearing, absolutely high-octane, and something worth remembering until the end of time. Now in terms of the Powerpuff Girls’ rogues gallery, there is no other group of villains to get as much popularity as The Rowdyruff Boys consisting of Brick the hot-tempered leader, Butch the extremely violent one, and Boomer the dim one. They were initially created by Mojo Jojo with the help of snips of armpit hair, snails, and a dog’s tail from, of course, The Talking Dog. As an ersatz for Chemical X, he flushed the ingredients down a toxic toilet and thus, The Rowdyruff Boys were born. Yes, in their debut episode their personalities were almost similar to each other that they came off as angrier, nastier counterparts to the Powerpuff Girls. However, if you take that characterization aspect aside, they were completely on par with the girls in terms of power, that they almost defeated them. The Rowdyruff Boys do prove themselves to be formidable enemies to the girls and their episode was the second to the last one of the first season. Just when Mojo Jojo and the boys were gloating at their presumed triumph, Miss Bellum gave a pep talk to the girls saying that they can use their feminine charms to defeat the boys. From there, the viewers are then treated to the most famous scene, which has cemented the whole RRB/PPG pairing frenzy, the kissing scene. Blossom kisses Brick, Bubbles kisses Boomer, and Buttercup kisses Butch. With that, the boys exploded. These little bastards were so popular that they were even revived in Season 5 to 6. In their returning episode, The Boys are Back in Town, HIM resurrected them with a cootie shot and the boys’ personalities are not only more defined with Brick’s impulsive, mean-spirited, and hot-tempered nature, but also Butch’s bouts of psychosis, bloodlust, overall insanity, and undying loyalty to Brick as the middle brother, and Boomer’s dim-witted yet infantile nature as the youngest, as there were times that he was used as Brick’s and Butch’s punching bag evidenced in Bubble Boy. Sure, the boys’ personalities during their revival came off as obnoxious, jerkish, and irredeemable, but they were still very entertaining as characters. Heck, in The City of Clipsville, there was one scene where the Powerpuff Girls and Rowdyruff Boys were teenagers and they seemed to have a thing for each other. While that scene was interesting and kind of funny, I felt like they were all robbed of their distinctive personalities, as the girls acted more like clueless valley girls and the boys acted more like laid-back slackers. Speaking of RRB/PPG pairings, my goodness a lot of fan-related pieces are all over the web, mostly due to the whole bad boy/good girl pairings are very much all the rage and there is so much appeal. As for me, I really love this particular pairing. Sure, it’s not canon in the TV show given the fact that the Rowdyruff Boys and the Powerpuff Girls are between 5 to 6 years old. However, if this show continued with the girls and boys as tweens or teens, I’d say they would all go a different route. The boys would be very fed up with both Mojo Jojo and HIM telling them what to do and how to be evil, and they would eventually find their own paths, all the while realizing that maybe they were in the wrong, to begin with. They would develop from being villains to anti-villains to anti-heroes at most heroes at the least. I am really sure that among Brick, Butch, and Boomer, the latter would really turn to the good side and have an amazingly stable relationship with Bubbles. Heck, it would be amazing to see the Rowdyruff Boys team up with the Powerpuff Girls and be a great superhero team to rival that of the Teen Titans, the Justice League, the Suicide Squad, and the Avengers. I indubitably support Boomubbles with a passion, but I also enjoy Blossick and Butchercup, mostly because fanfic writers will tend to make their relationships a little bit more complex in comparison to the sentimental, lovey-dovey vibe of the youngest lovebirds Boomer and Bubbles. The usual case with Brick and Blossom in fanfics would be these two will have a will they or will they not type of relationship, and because they…
