Brick x Bubbles (Brickubbles) This is the sweetest pairing to ever exist between a hot-headed rogue and an inwardly hardcore ingenue. Ergo, Brickubbles may be the second best color-crack couple, in my opinion considering that there is one that rules over this and Boomercup combined, but it might as well be kept within a high school crush scenario. I know some of you might feel tired of me preaching about my least to most favorite RRB x PPG pairings to the heavens, but I figured that this would be fun to expound some of my opinions on the other pairings. Moreover, just by seeing this list, you will realize that there is not one pairing I feel either indifferent to or dislike and I could not find any pairing that fits that category, seeing that I do have adamant sentiments when it comes to certain pairings. So, let’s get cracking by getting the negatives out of the way. The Pairings I absolutely abhor the most RRBcest (Brick x Butch aka Brickutch, Butch x Boomer aka Butchoomer, and Brick x Boomer aka Brickoomer) and PPGcest (Blossom x Buttercup aka Blossercup, Buttercup x Bubbles aka Butterubbles, and Blossom x Bubbles aka Blossubbles) On a general level, I cannot stand any pairing where either Brick, Butch, and Boomer or Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles end up as each others’ lovers, as it is just plain sick and wrong. I know I used to have Brick x Butch or Brickutch as my guilty pleasure pairing, but I suddenly outgrew this pairing, as I strongly decided to keep Brick and Butch as really best friends who stick out for each other through thick and thin and have wonderfully epic moments of bromance. Maybe if they were not brothers I would give this pairing a shot because of their strong chemistry and bond, but as it is, just keep them as bromantic besties and let us call it a day. Do not even get me started on either Butch x Boomer or Brick x Boomer as lovers because there would be no chemistry between Boomer and either of his brothers as lovers. In Butchoomer’s case, I would prefer it if Butch and Boomer were really competitive friends with benefits who love to test their strength and athletic prowess on each other and see who is the stronger brother of the two. In Brickoomer’s case, I would rather keep it as a similar case to Butch’s and Boomer’s competitive relationship, but with Brick being the one to show tough fraternal love to Boomer and be as competitive with him, thus having Boomer show Brick and Butch how much stronger he can be than them and get their respect in the process. All in all, I can definitely say that Brick’s and Butch’s relationship is akin to being really great friends, Butch’s and Boomer’s relationship is within the realms of really competitive friends who have moments of sibling rivalry but end up working together rather well, and Brick’s and Boomer’s relationship is competitive in a tough fraternal love kind of way. Therefore, Boomer can respect Brick and Butch for being the strong, tough brothers that they are and Brick and Butch can respect Boomer for proving to them that he can be as strong as a fighter than them. Now that we have talked about the gentlemen, how about the ladies? Blossom x Buttercup or Blossercup makes me go through a moment of projectile vomiting! I would rather keep these girls as really close yet really competitive frenemies who may get on each others’ nerves but still give a darn about each other because of how effectively they work together. Their relationship is really akin to Cyborg’s and Robin’s relationship from Teen Titans 2003, in which Robin’s and Blossom’s brand of being the straight person manages to complement Cyborg’s and Buttercup’s muscle rather well, thus making them an unstoppable force. Moreover, it says a lot when both Blossom and Buttercup are the very people who do enjoy testing their strength and combat prowess on each other. Buttercup x Bubbles or Butterubbles might as well be the classic case of friends with benefits considering how many scuffles these two have in the show. Bubbles, being the romantic that she is, would easily function as the matchmaker and be of high approval of Buttercup and Brick getting together an awesome couple. Blossom x Bubbles or Blossubbles might as well and should stick to the classic case of Blossom being the only sane woman supporting Bubbles in all of her times of insecurity, fear, and anguish and vice versa. All in all, PPGcest is yet another set of pairings I cannot stand and I would rather keep the sisterly dynamic between Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles as extremely platonic thank you very much. Butch x Buttercup aka Butchercup The Greens as a couple makes me want to throw up! I might as well keep these two as friends who work really well together giving any felon a well-deserved knuckle sandwich. But as a couple? No! Get those two away from each other before something explodes! Moving on. Brick x Blossom aka Blossick No! Do not ever get me started on BlossSICK anymore, as it literally and figuratively makes me sick for overrated, overloved, and over-bloated this particular pairing really is. Moreover, do not get me started on how much their egos tend to consume them. These two deserve better and I am pretty sure they know it! I would rather keep them as comrades-in-arms and call it a day. The Pairing I like Boomer x Buttercup aka Boomercup As a cute, innocent pairing, I have been getting behind this for a long time. This Rowdyruff x Powerpuff Couples Chart belongs to miss pacman aka QuietLullabies. And yes, there are a few additions to this that I put in, which are inspired by the other completed memes. Moreover, I am going to make this a Red Ribbon Reviewers contribution, since I have rarely done any of these contributions in text-based form. Some things in this world are indubitably true. At best, Christmas is the time of giving, reflecting, and showing comfort, joy, love, and openness to your loved ones. At worst, Christmas can be the time of mass commercialism and consumerism to the point where people forget the true meaning of the season. To deviate from this holiday sentiment, lots opinions change either suddenly or gradually. Such is the case of my sentiments with my Rowdyruff Boys/Powerpuff Girls ships. Now at age twenty-six, I have seen that there are pairings that have held up well and others that sadly did not mostly due to decreasing tolerance of those pairings, as there were opinions from the old meme that have changed as I grew and expanded my horizons. So, for this holiday season, let us get the lumps of coal out of the way, as I talk about my RRB/PPG pairings I cannot stand anymore but actually function on a comrade-to-comrade basis. Keep in mind that these are all of my opinions, so please do not throw a hissy fit if your ship gets the NOTP treatment from me. With that said, let us get the crap out of the way before we get to the really good stuff. NOTPs that actually function somewhat better as BroTPs Brick x Blossom aka Blossick aka The Reds or as the anti-Blossick people love to call it BlossSICK! Here a Blossick! There a Blossick! Everywhere a Blossick! Everywhere I turn when I search for Rowdyruff x Powerpuff pairings, Brick x Blossom seems to ubiquitously pop up. Why, pray tell, are these two red-clad leaders the poster children of being an awesome RRB/PPG couple or an overall Powerpuff Girls couple? Is it because of the belligerent sexual tension? Is it because these two have the most differences as opposed to Butchercup and Boomubbles? Is it because these two are opposites that attract each other? I guess those can be legitimate reasons as to why anyone would love to ship Blossick, since Brick is fire, Blossom is ice, he is rugged, roguish, rough, and crass, while she is classy, elegant, articulate, and poised, and Brick is street smart, while Blossom is book smart. Fine. I am not going to stop anyone from shipping Blossick. However, do you really want to know what kills this “pairing” for me? Their egos! My goodness! After rewatching some episodes, I found out the one factor why I kind of abhor Blossick being shipped as a romantic couple and that has to be their huge egos. It is one thing to exude confidence, strong beliefs, and pride in everything one does. It is another thing when that said confidence and pride mutate into a bloated ego on the verge of hubris complete with bragging about what great qualities they think they have. Do not get me wrong. I like both Brick and Blossom as individual characters. However, when paired up as lovers, I get the feeling that their relationship will fall apart due to their egos and their willingness to constantly one-up each other and it will never cease nor desist nor will there be any compromise whatsoever! Oh, and do not ever get me started on how overloved, overrated, over-bloated, and over-ubiquitous this RRB/PPG pairing is, as there are memes which place Brick as the favorite Ruff, Blossom as the favorite Puff, and Blossick as the favorite RuffPuff pairing. Let us also not forget the constant shipping wars going on between Blossick and DexBloss shippers, which can give the whole Superman vs Goku craze a run for its money. I still could not believe I used to like Blossick as a teenager, but I guess when you are a teenager you tend to like almost anything without getting into any depths as to why you like it. My feelings for Blossick went from loving it to liking it to feeling indifferent to it to me shouting to the heavens, “PLEASE MAKE THIS BLOSSICK CRAZE STOP!!!!!” Sorry, hardcore Blossick shippers, but that is just how I roll these days. In spite of all my vehemence against Blossick, I can still ship them platonically as a sort of Team Dad, Team Mom duo in my Team Xtreme headcanon. At least, these two red-clad leaders can work professionally like that. Plus, there are other better pairings for both Brick and Blossom anyway. So, now that I got my feeling for the Reds out of the way, let’s talk about….ugh…The Greens! Butch x Buttercup aka Butchercup aka The Greens Behold, the Greens. The toughest fighters. The muscles of their respective siblings. The very people you do not want to mess with if you get on their bad sides or cross their paths. And God, help you if you do, for Butch and Buttercup will give you the Queen Mother of knuckle sandwiches. On top of that, Butch and Buttercup are absolutely competitive to the point where no one seems to stop them from getting what they want. And yes, when these two green-clad, hot-tempered fighters are together, belligerent sexual tension will occur. Unfortunately, the Greens have a seriously messed-up relationship, at least that is how I see it. What makes their relationship messed up is their stubbornness and their harsh, fiery tempers when they are together. Everything they do would feel like a freaking battlefield and that is saying something. Sure, this pairing is not as overrated as BlosSICK is, but it still sucks because of their unhinged animosity, grumbling, whining, complaining, aggression, egos, and constant shouting. As a mostly RRB/PPG shipper, I realize just how much my tastes have developed, in terms of looking beyond the color-coded pairing and finding the mixed-colored and the color crack pairings even more intriguing that I can ever give them credit for. There have been some ships I ended up loving even more and there are also some ships I love even less. And there are also other ships which are quite fascinating mostly due to the fanart and to some extent the fanfics. Let’s get this show on the row. The Buttercup Ships OTP Pairing: Brick x Buttercup (Brickercup) Ah, the sheer excitement of Brickercup! Me likey Brickercup! Me likey – you’re a big boy now. Stop it! That slightly improvised Lois Griffin quote from Family Guy’s Lethal Weapons aside, I dub this OTP The Hot and Spicy Couple, as Brick the Bludgeoner is the fire to Buttercup the Toughest Fighter’s spice. There’s so much to love about Brick and Buttercup together and there’s never gonna be a dull moment when these two passionate fighting souls are around. From Brick teaching Buttercup new and effective fighting techniques that she can use wisely to him soothing her occasional temper tantrums by being the roguishly handsome charmer that he is to Buttercup giving Brick’s ego a run for its money by taking no crap from him to all of that juicy belligerent sexual tension building between the both of them to that intimacy they have when consummating their feelings. Sure, their romantic relationship is so akin to a crazy yet fun rollercoaster ride, but when one combines Brick’s large-and-in-charge, fiery, independent, street-smart, occasionally book smart, and roguishly charming personality with Buttercup’s feisty, mischievous, tsundere, tough, equally fiery, and rebellious nature they can truly complement each other in almost every single way and, therefore, become a force of nature through their boundless energy, determination, and emotional, physical, and psychological durability. They will definitely give life’s circumstances the middle finger and open up the biggest can of whoop-ass one has ever seen. Their love-hate relationship would begin as childhood frenemies to respecting each other for their fighting skills, so much so where Brick acts as the sensei to Buttercup’s student in combat, to finally finding a soulmate in each other to working off of their temperamental synergy when they date to somewhat mellowing down when they get married but only when the situation calls for it. At the end of the day, Brick and Buttercup will certainly have each others’ backs and stay with each other through thick and thin. Loved Pairings: Boomer x Buttercup (Boomercup) and Mitch x Buttercup (Mitchercup) Starting off with Boomercup, I cannot begin to describe to you how much this pairing has been growing on me at a gradual rate. I can totally understand why this ship, in particular, has its followers and that’s because someone like Boomer can be able to put up with Buttercup’s fiery temperament and she can find him rather amusing and surprisingly tough considering how much he’s been bullied by Brick and Butch, yet still manages to have enough fighting spirit and strength to push through. This is essentially the good bad boy being paired up with the bad good girl, as Boomer is sympathetic and sensitive and Buttercup is rebellious and impulsive. I also consider this ship to be healthy because Boomer and Buttercup can help each other break each others’ walls down, melt the ice that surrounds them, and see that they are a lot more than meets the eye. Plus, they’re the outcasts of their siblings with Boomer being bullied by Brick and Butch, the very guys who are supposed to be his older brothers, and Buttercup being the tomboy who’s not as ladylike nor poised as Blossom and Bubbles. Boomer and Buttercup, therefore, feed off of each other and build trust, empathy, and a close-knit friendship with Buttercup giving Boomer noogies galore and Boomer thinking that Buttercup is the coolest out of her sisters. Boomer would look up to Buttercup for being herself and not take crap from anyone and Buttercup would look up to Boomer for showing so much endurance, guts, and stamina in everything he does. Sure, this ship may not have a lot of supporters considering the uncertainty of how Buttercup would treat Boomer in a harsh, bullying fashion, but I consider Boomercup to be fun, just as healthy as the other Boomer ships, interesting, and also the entertaining case where Buttercup wears the pants in this relationship and Boomer is the more submissive and loyal partner. Overall, I consider this to be a cute, innocent pairing bordering more on the BroTP area, but it’s nonetheless an absolutely endearing pairing in a hilarious fashion. Then we go to Mitchercup. This is definitely a popular PPG/Normie pairing given how Mitch and Buttercup interact with each other. There’s a chemistry that these two have implying that there could be something more than just being friends. They interact with each other in a way that makes them bounce off of each other so effectively and they seem totally chill with each other. This is also appealing because of the whole childhood friend becomes the person’s greater equal when they grow up. Sure, I ship Mitch with Bunny a lot more, but when all is said and done, this has its plausibility. If I were to compare which of these loved Buttercup pairings I care for the most, it would have to be Boomercup because this ship needs a lot more love on how funny, entertaining, and interesting Boomer’s and Buttercup’s dynamics can be. Plus, Boomer and Mitch might as well function as the closest brothers-in-law given that Buttercup is married to Brick in my headcanon, thus also establishing them as really great friends. The PPG/RRB Shipping Chart was originally created by QuietLullabies. Well, I am in the marvelous city of Madrid, Spain, where I will be celebrating my 26th birthday. Yes, I know, another year older, another year wiser. So, to celebrate my upcoming birthday here’s my take on the whole PPG/RRB shipping meme chart. I have been seeing fellow artists’ takes on these pairings. Some were interesting, some were a bit one-sided, and some were actually well-thought out and I enjoyed reading their opinions on the Rowdyruffs and Powerpuffs they like or not like to pair up with. So, without ado, here’s my take on the PPG/RRB shippings. OTPs: Boomer/Bubbles or Boomubbles- In my opinion, this has to be the most plausible and overall best of not only the color-coded RRB/PPG pairings but also RRB/PPG pairings in general. These two seem like they are destined to be for each other and are akin to the star-crossed lovers that I have seen in the media and literature, i.e. Romeo and Juliet. I am very sure that these two would start leaving behind any animosity if the Rowdyruff Boys became good guys, joined forces with the Powerpuff Girls and will be the first to show loads of forgiveness and compassion, while they are still young children. Eventually, Boomer and Bubbles would start becoming the closest of friends and comrades, thus building a healthy and genuine relationship between the two. Once they reach their tweens and teens, they would develop even deeper feelings for each other and will actually go on more dates, aside from the usual crime-fighting they have to do. Plus, in my headcanon, they would end up being the first to marry in their late teens to their early 20s and have children with Boomer being the loving, well-meaning father and Bubbles being the supportive, compassionate mother, in spite of the fact that they are the youngest of their respective sibling groups. It’s no surprise why I love the Blues when they are together. It’s because of not only their appeal of being adorable, sweet, and/or lovely but it also has this fairytale-like feel in their relationship, where after every trial, every challenge, and every hardship, Boomer and Bubbles still have each others’ backs and will seem to be the couple that will stay faithful to each other until the end of time. The Reds and the Greens were rather interesting to pair up because not only do I like Blossick and Butchercup, even though they can be a tad bit overrated, but I also enjoy Brickercup and Blossutch as much as the former. Moreover, the Reds and the Greens don’t really have that fairy tale, lovey-dovey, sentimental vibe that the Blues have, thus showing how tough being in a relationship is, yet at the same time it is reassuring, as principles of respect, responsibility, compassion, allegiance, and trust need to be put in to practice, not only with each other but also for the good of their team. So, here’s my take on these pairings, even though I made it kind of clear in my OT4 drawing of Bricksomutchercup. I still keep my word that Brick, Butch, Blossom, and Buttercup are the strongest OT4 in my opinion, hence that’s why I dub them to be my Four Favorite Bruisers of All Time because of their unwaveringly strong personalities and overall determination. Plus, I imagine the Reds and the Greens living together under one roof, with the Blues living in another house. So, here are my explanations, anyway. Brick/Blossom or Blossick- I put this as my first choice because they seem to be the ones who follow suit when it comes to Boomer and Bubbles being together. As they grow up and form a six-person superhero team, I can see them still obtaining responsibilities of being leaders as well as the eldest children with Brick and his large-and-in-charge warlord personality who ensures a fair fight, great combat skills from all of his teammates, and a grand victory for every mission they do and Blossom and her tendency to be the team mom who ensures strategy to be present in battle and the overall safety of not only her beloved but also her comrades. I can see their romance as not being that of a fairy tale but one that is really challenging, as walls need to be broken down, trust has to be formed, and respect and allegiance need to be put to practice. Sure, they would initially have difficulty trusting and respecting each other. However, as time goes by, they would start to see each other for who they are. Brick would see that Blossom is not always Little Miss Perfect and Blossom would see that Brick has some insecurities, which are more often than not hidden in this proud personality. Together, these two can take what primal doubts and insecurities they have and take them in stride, thus helping each other reach their full potential not only physically but psychologically as well. As young adults in their twenties, they and the Greens would even have a double wedding after their youngest siblings’ matrimony and as parents, I can imagine Blossom being the stern, well-meaning, and supportive mom and Brick being the strong, tough, and really loving dad. I really love this pairing because it does show how being in a relationship is not always easy but when two people have patience, trust, respect, allegiance, and understanding anything is possible. Butch/Buttercup or Butchercup- Ah, yes. One of the Takahashi couples to end all Takahashi couples because of their volcanically belligerent sexual tension. They would be the couple who would argue and shout one moment and be cuddly and make love to each other in the next.
