Ah, La Grande Madama Diana Damrau. Fresh from her role debut as Maria Stuarda in Zürich, she brought this iconic queen to Berlin accompanied by some equally wonderful singing actors. I know I should have mentioned this in the review, but I’ll say it anyway. I am anticipating the day she adds Anna Bolena and especially the Roberto Devereux Elisabetta I, as she will definitely knock these roles right out of the park. Three years ago, I caught this production of this rare Puccini opera by the famous tenor, Rolando Villazon, which had such amazing performers like Aurelia Florian as Magda de Civry, Joseph Calleja as Ruggero Lastouc, Alexandra Hutton as Lisette, and Alvaro Zambrano as Prunier.
