Ah, La Grande Madama Diana Damrau. Fresh from her role debut as Maria Stuarda in Zürich, she brought this iconic queen to Berlin accompanied by some equally wonderful singing actors. I know I should have mentioned this in the review, but I’ll say it anyway. I am anticipating the day she adds Anna Bolena and especially the Roberto Devereux Elisabetta I, as she will definitely knock these roles right out of the park. Enjoy the review and let me know your opinions as well.
Deutsche Oper Berlin
Three years ago, I caught this production of this rare Puccini opera by the famous tenor, Rolando Villazon, which had such amazing performers like Aurelia Florian as Magda de Civry, Joseph Calleja as Ruggero Lastouc, Alexandra Hutton as Lisette, and Alvaro Zambrano as Prunier. Enjoy the review and let me know your opinions as well.
Martina Serafin knocked it out of the park as Puccini’s Manon Lescaut. Enjoy the review and let me know your opinions as well.
Two years ago I caught an underrated Richard Strauss that deserved a good look. Enjoy the review and let me know your opinions as well.
Claus Guth. Whether you like him or hate him, you can’t deny that this Salome production did have some moments of brilliance. Enjoy the review and let me know your opinions as well.
Two years ago in January, I caught the premiere of Leos Janacek’s Vec Makropulos, known in English as The Makropulos Case, at the Deutsche Oper Berlin starring the indescribable, invigorating, and exhilarating Wagnerian soprano, Madame Evelyn Herlitzius, as the tragically eternal anti-heroine, Emilia Marty. Enjoy the review and let me know your opinions as well.
Four years ago, I caught the premiere of this particular production of Hector Berlioz’s La Damnation de Faust headlined by an illustrious cast consisting of Samuel Youn, Klaus Florian Vogt, Clementine Margaine, and Tobias Kehrer. Enjoy the review and let me know your opinions as well.
I take myself back two years ago where I caught the concert version of Vincenzo Bellini’s I Capuleti e I Montecchi, known in English as The Capulets and The Montagues, at the Deutsche Oper Berlin starring Joyce DiDonato, Venera Gimadieva, and Celso Albelo. Enjoy the review and let me know your opinions as well.
A Rienzi production which makes you feel like you’re watching a film from the olden days. Enjoy the review and let me know your opinions as well. This review may have been released two years ago, but I still feel happy that I was able to talk about this Wagner rarity.
This was yet another historical piece of work from Meyerbeer to add to my accomplishments of operas I have been longing to review for the longest time. The question remains, how well does this illustrious cast headed by Gregory Kunde, Clementine Margaine, Elena Tsallagova, Derek Welton, Noel Bouley, Andrew Dickinson, and Seth Carico stack up? Enjoy the review and let me know your opinions as well.
