Unintentionally Lovable Smegheads

This screenshot motivational poster is highly and utterly Pro-Mooninites, i.e. Pro-Ignignokt and Pro-Err. Sit back, relax, and soak in that delicious Mooninite irreverence which could emit a sense of pleasure and enjoyment.

When I was a nine-year-old third-grader I tuned into Aqua Teen Hunger Force for the first time back between 2001 and 2002. While I did enjoy Master Shake, Frylock, Meatwad, and Carl, there were two intergalactic characters who I considered to be the breakout characters of this particular show created by Matt Maiellaro and Dave Willis. They were none other than Ignignokt and Err, the Mooninites, who I first caught in their debut episode Mayhem of the Mooninites, which left me rolling on the floor with boisterous laughter loud enough to bring out the hyena in me. To this very day, I look back at their debut episode and the other episodes they appeared in with so much fondness.

In a world saturated with characters who display fake kindness and an overall phoniness to their supposed altruism, the Mooninites are more than proud and elated to be anarchic, hedonistic, and ruthless while being absolutely authentic about their misdeeds. I know I am supposed to hate them because of just how horrible they are. However, their otherwise horrid nature is what makes me root for them because they do not try to hide from it at all. There are also some occasions where they do get their just desserts, which can be just as satisfying as when they find themselves on top. So, whether they win or lose or just troll around, there is no doubt that the pure enjoyment I obtain from their deviousness is what keeps me thoroughly elated from start to finish.

The other attribute worth rooting for is the symbiotic dynamic these two bear, with Ignignokt being calculating, eloquent, and speaking with dulcet tones in his voice and Err being loud, mouthy, and bearing a squeaky, raspy voice which is intrepid enough to spout out some expletives. This dichotomy between Ignignokt’s classy yet irreverent straight man and Err’s rambunctiously raspy yet boisterous hellion creates a symbiosis of interpersonal comedy worth rooting for and worth a million laughs every time they appear on screen. Their comedy is just as effective when they work off of Master Shake’s brashness, Frylock’s straight man nature who takes no crap from them, Meatwad’s naiveté, Carl’s irritability, and the Plutonian’s incompetence, thus displaying impeccable chemistry with the characters surrounding them.

Ignignokt and Err would not be the unintentionally lovable smegheads they are without Dave Willis’ eloquence and Matt Maiellaro’s hyperactivity being put to phenomenal use to make these intergalactic creatures come to full fruition. The experience of these two working their vocal magic together is something you really have to hear and they did such a great job emitting memorability in each of these two lunar entities.

In conclusion, Ignignokt and Err will always have a special place in my heart because of just how fun and naturally irreverent they are. They knew how to be slimy yet charismatic while imbuing a sense of offbeat charm, thus making me have such a hugely excited grin on my face every time they appear.

I hope you all enjoyed this and I will see you in the next submission. Take care, stay safe, and do not let the Mooninites shoot you with their quad laser, everybody.

Ignignokt and Err from Aqua Teen Hunger Force belong to Dave Willis, Matt Maiellaro, and Adult Swim.
