This screenshot motivational poster is dedicated to all of my Kouga x Sango-shipping friends, fans, and brethren. So, sit back, relax, and soak in that KouSan spiciness and excitement.
Quick confession. When I was thirteen years old, the thought of pairing Kouga up with Sango was completely alien to me because I used to have all right feelings for them. Nowadays, that I am nearing my twenty-eighth year in life, I have always been proud to call myself a hardcore Kouga x Sango OTP shipper with gusto and confidence. I never really for how many times Miroku constantly groped Sango to almost no end and how Kouga constantly ended up being strung along by Kagome, even though he does treat her like a princess, and the less said about that rushed, undeserved ending between him and Ayame, the better.
Enter the next best thing for these two as well as my crazy, fun alternate universe-creating mind. I made the endeavor to hook up this brash wolf yokai and this demon slayer making them start off as childhood friends who have built up their relationship on strength, competition, tough talking, and enough fire to cook up the heartiest of banquets.
My AU retelling for Kouga and Sango is that they would first meet as very young children in the woods. I imagine 6-year-old Sango being jeered by the local boys for being a weak girl not worthy of being a demon slayer. This spurred little Sango to beat up the local boys and prove to them that she can hold up on her own by tackling a wolf demon.
As she wandered into the woods with her trusty Hiraikotsu, which she inherited from her father, she heard a rustle. Sango turned her head around and threw her giant boomerang to the direction of that noise. A boy’s voice called out to her and said that if she had thrown that any harder, she could disrupt the peace of his woods. Sango ordered the unknown voice to come out and show himself, as she leapt up the air and saw a young 7-year-old wolf yokai boy with piercing azure eyes and ebony black hair. The slayer and the yokai engaged in a scuffle and Sango delivered the blue-eyed, ebony-haired yokai a potent punch to his left cheek, thus making him fall to the ground with a thud. The young wolf yokai laid there on the ground stupefied and motionless, as Sango approached him. As soon as he recovered, he remarked her on her awesome strength. He introduced himself as Kouga and proudly stated that he would love to have her as his wife.
Sango could not believe her young ears when Kouga said that, as she blushed like the reddest of Fuji apples. Kouga assured Sango that he was not kidding because he loved the way she was able to defend herself, know every weak point, and be such a conscientious fighter, thus making her the perfect candidate to be his mate, as there are no other girl could ever compare to Sango in terms of strength, beauty, and independence. Sango, still blushing, decided to make a bet on Kouga that she will knock him out to show the boys who have jeered at her what she was made of. Kouga gladly accepted, as Sango head-butted him with him exclaiming how much he loves her and fell to the ground unconscious.
A few hours later, Sango was carrying Kouga to the village and showed the boys who jeered at her that she caught herself a wolf demon. One of them poked at him and Kouga immediately woke up from his slumber. After what Sango told Kouga, he already recognized from the boys’ scent that they were the ones who taunted his bride-to-be and gave them all a huge punch in the eye and kick to the stomach with Sango watching gleefully at the sight. After proving his strength to her, Sango stated she would gladly accept Kouga’s approval to be his bride and they headed off. She also gave him one condition and that was that every three weeks she would have to visit her home to see her little brother Kohaku. This act of familial duty also gave Kouga more reasons to happily accept Sango as his one and only.
As Kouga and Sango returned to his den, the other wolves were absolutely stupefied that he would choose a mere mortal let alone a young demon slayer to be his wife. Kouga boldly stated that Sango’s strength and determination are assets to keep the tribe moving forward and they respected his command. Two years passed and 9-year-old Kouga and 8-year-old Sango ended up being married, especially after a triumphant battle against the Birds of Paradise, and their prospects of having children became a whole lot more exciting, considering that she wanted to be a mother and felt ready to accept her duty as one because of all the times she has been taking care of little Kohaku.
As of this year, 37 going on 38-year-old Kouga and 36 going 37-year-old Sango are the proud parents of 30-year-old Kai, 29-year-old triplet sons Ryuya, Ryohei, and Jouji, 28-year-old twin sons Issei and Fumihiko, 27-year-old sons Jurota, Gojyo, and Shinta, 25 going on 26-year-old triplet daughters Fujiko, Tomoko, and Takako, and 24 going on 25-year-old twin daughters Ranko and Hanako with all of their kids ending up being married with children of their own, thus making Kouga and Sango proud grandparents and looking forward to becoming great-grandparents. Kai is truly his father’s son, as he has inherited his pride, determination, and toughness, and has ended up being happily married to 27 going on 28-year-old Shiori while Shinta has always been close to his beloved mother and has ended up being happily married to 29 going on 30-year-old Shion. Ergo, Kouga’s and Sango’s sons have become tough-talking, resilient, and take-charge fighters who are a fine combination of being wild and super strong and their daughters have inherited their mother’s determination, cognizance, and overall toughness as a fighter. Their grandchildren are even showing signs of inheriting a lot of traits from their children.
In conclusion, I can never go wrong with this fiery couple. Kouga’s tough guy attitude is certainly a fine compliment to Sango’s resilience and he would go out of his way to treat her like the queen that she truly is with all the bells and whistles.
