The Greatest of Rivals and Frenemies

This screenshot motivational poster is dedicated to all of my Buttercup and Princess Morbucks-loving friends, fellow artists, fans, and brethren. Sit back, relax, and soak in Buttercup’s and Princess’s brand of relentless rivalry. There will also be a few Brickercup or Brick x Buttercup, Prinack or Jack Spicer x Princess Morbucks, and Prick or Brick x Princess moments, given that this would start off as a love triangle when they were very, very young, but we all know which one is going to end up as the endgame pairing for these two formidable rivals-in-arms.

I now go in-depth with this particular rivalry between the tough, rambunctious, feisty lime-green clad daughter of Professor Utonium and the loud, demanding, sassy auburn-haired daughter of Daddy Morbucks.

These two have aggressive personalities which can easily clash at the drop of a hat, as all it takes for them to get the venom rolling are some insults thrown at them. Usually, Buttercup’s favorite insult directed towards Princess would involve her prissiness, snootiness, vanity, and the fact that she is a total daddy’s girl. Whilst Princess would deign to insult Buttercup on her short-fused temper, her “savage” hobbies such as getting herself into football, rugby, soccer, and many other combat sports when she could opt to be a cheerleader, and her “vulgar” taste in fashion and style, given that she is not all that feminine in the traditional sense.

At this rate, there would not be an inkling of them having anything romantic with each other because of how vastly different their personalities are and that they are more hellbent on knocking each other down a peg or two.

Speaking of romance, given that I am a major Brickercup shipper and see Prick as a first crush scenario, this is where our favorite large-and-in-charge, determined, fierce, red-clad, cap-wearing Rowdyruff Boy Brick comes into the picture, as he would be the object of their affection. Spoiler alert, he would be far more interested in Buttercup from here to eternity, which I will explain a bit later.

I bet all of you are wondering, Buttercup and Princess Morbucks? Rivals in love to Brick when they were little girls? Hear me out. This also coincides with my Team Xtreme AU headcanon where the Rowdyruff Boys are all Mr. Green’s and Mrs. Bellum-Green’s biological sons and the Powerpuff Girls are all Professor Utonium’s and Mrs. Keane-Utonium’s biological daughters. When it comes to Princess Morbucks, her fascination with wanting to be a Team Xtreme member would start off with not only how these six superheroes performed their duties in saving Townsville and the whole world, but also with how Brick, the eldest Team Xtreme member and official leader of the pack, ran a tight ship to lead his group to victory to the point where his influence as a leader gave Butch the inspiration to use his strength and forcefield-creating abilities to protect his group, Boomer the willpower he needed to stand up for himself and use his lightning abilities as a means for self-defense, Blossom the ability to challenge Brick’s plans to find better alternatives, Buttercup the undying respect that they have for each other, and Bubbles the acknowledgment she really needed. In other words, Princess Morbucks had a crush on Brick, but he and Buttercup seemed to have something going on with each other, which made their “relationship” the target for teasing from their peers.

Even after her overall amazement of Team Xtreme’s impressive performance, her eyes would still be set on Brick, as he is akin to her most coveted prize. Brick, however, would find Princess to be annoying, overly clingy, and unnecessarily demanding because of her obsessive want to be a Team Xtreme member. After huddling up with his group, he would decline her offer with Buttercup echoing in by saying that Princess cannot just buy superpowers, thus leading Princess to vehemently assume that Brick is far more interested in that “lowly peasant” Buttercup than what she has to offer in terms of her money and power and storm off. Therefore, this was what ignited the rivalry to happen between Team Xtreme and Princess Morbucks, most especially where Brick and Buttercup were concerned.

I am fully aware that Blossom would have been another candidate for Princess’s jealousy because of her obsession with Brick, thus functioning as the third wheel to Brick’s and Blossom’s relationship. This even got to the point where the love triangle between Brick, Blossom, and Princess would usually come up in a lot of fanfics and many other fan-related works. However, if you know me, I absolutely hate Blossick because, as I stated before, the Reds may be strong and smart in their own ways, but their egos, competitiveness, and unnecessary friction would make their fart of a relationship fall apart. Furthermore, they would cancel each other out in the most annoying ways possible. At least, Brick and Blossom can end up as good friends and equally good comrades.

So, why on earth would Buttercup be Brick’s ultimate dream girl and soulmate, even though they tried not to show it when they were very young children? This mainly boils down to a couple of facets Brick would really love in Buttercup such as her independence, great physical strength, great endurance, willingness to speak her mind, act naturally, and not be a total snoot. They would even find a lot of common ground in many of their favorite activities such as various contact sports, rock and roll, and giving every single monster and villain of Townsville a huge knuckle sandwich. It would even help that Buttercup would be pretty grateful to Brick for saving her from certain doom in comparison to how she would act with Boomer and especially with Butch. All of these facets are what would make Buttercup have a great edge of winning in Brick’s eyes in stark comparison to Princess’s whining, snootiness, and pretentiousness and Blossom’s occasionally stuck-up, nagging, demanding, overly feminine personality. These are facets which would make Brick acknowledge does not need to be anything else for him because she is perfect the way she is. In turn, Buttercup would easily respect Brick as a person because he is someone who is courageous, determined, and is always aiming for the bigger prize and realize that they have so much more in common than they think. Therefore, Brick and Buttercup would have it made in the shade as a couple and not even Princess’s petty jealousy could break them apart.

What about Princess? I hear you ask. Considering how her rivalry with Team Xtreme went from their childhood to early adolescence, she would realize how tiring and dull it was to constantly butt heads with her rivals and move on to newer endeavors. This would even end up in Princess realizing that Brick and Buttercup were truly made for each other and begrudgingly hope for the best in their blossoming relationship. Given her impossibly high standards in boys, she found that not even the likes of Floyd Floyjoydson, Lloyd Floyjoydson, Mitch Mitchelson, Blitz, Harry Pitt, Mike Believe, Wes Goinon, and even Elmer Sglue would be her ideal Mr. Right, especially Mitch because of how their history of being annoying and rude towards each other meant that nothing was going to come out of their fart of a relationship. This was where 18-year-old Jack Spicer, who is five years older than Princess, would come into her life when she was a 13 going on 14-year-old eighth grader.

Moving on from Brick meant that Princess ended up finding someone in common with Jack Spicer, given their love for the finer things in life, cool inventions, and a passion for fashion. All of these traits would make them click so well to the point where they solemnly swore to each other that they will always stay by each others’ sides and will start an awesomely epic family.

Even though both Buttercup and Princess are happily married to Brick and Jack respectively as grown-ups, they would still have moments where they would begrudgingly and curtly show respect towards each other with the ever so occasional venomous taunt here and there. Nevertheless, they would still be willing to give each other a good side-eye and reluctantly help each other out.

All in all, Buttercup’s and Princess’s rivalry is definitely a combination of hurling taunts towards each other and a lot of tension going on between their feelings for one guy in the form of Brick. While Brick ended up choosing Buttercup in the end, even when they were little children, at least Princess ended up begrudgingly moving on and, at least, had her own happy ending with Jack Spicer. Despite both Buttercup and Princess still showing the occasional venom, they at least ended up as really, really unwilling allies.

I hope you all enjoyed this and I will see you in the next submission. Take care, stay safe, and have a great summer, everybody.
